On November 28, 2023, the Mount Desert Island Historical Society and the Southwest Harbor Pubic Library teamed up for the program "The Mills of Mount Desert Island with Terese Miller, Board Member of the Tremont Historical Society. This program was re-recorded on 12/14/23 by Terese with updated slides. This video also includes the Question and Answer session from the original 11/28/23 in-person program at the Library.

Terese generously provided the updated slideshow as a pdf document to share for viewer and historical reference.

About the Talk: Starting with the very first pioneer families in 1762 free and renewable water power provided the energy that launched the mills of Mount Desert Island. Mills produced the resources for the essentials of survival - food, clothing, shelter, and transportation, and allowed emerging settlements to thrive. Terese will examine the mill locations, products, and families involved in this industry across Mount Desert Island from 1762 until the early 1900s.

Terese Miller is a board member of the Tremont Historical Society and has given many talks on various historical topics of Mount Desert Island over the years. She is happily retired and busy with volunteer projects for Acadia National Park.
