Become a Volunteer!

Won't you contribute your time and enthusiasm to help save and share
Mount Desert Island's history?

The Society is growing and so are  volunteer opportunities.  Volunteering is a great way for you to learn about island history - and to help others appreciate it, too.

There are many ways you can help:

Docents - greet visitors to the museums, introduce the exhibits and answer their questions.

Administrative Assistants - help the staff with correspondence and the daily operation of the museums.

Archival Assistants - help care for the Historical Society's collections by cataloging, inventorying and ensuring that donated historic items are safely stored.

Exhibit Assistants -  join us in developing exhibit themes and planning and mounting  exhibits throughout the year.
Programs and Events - share your ideas on interesting topics and good speakers, and help us ensure that programs, field trips and other events run smoothly.

Gardening - help us care for the Heirloom and Conrad gardens in Somesville.

Give as much time as you can and know it will be appreciated!
